You may remember the surfer who energized a whole new constituency in San Diego around ocean conservation (and transparency) issues, and lost to an incumbent mayor in a very very unfair ruling.
She won the election as a write-in candidate, but some of her voters did not ALSO bubble-in next to her name. The intent of these voters was clear, but the California elections commission ruled against her anyway.
She's a Democrat currently, but if she would enter the Governor's race, we could really have conservation on the table.
